Caldrith Lore

Continent History

A record of the empire that fell, the Sundering that broke it, and the lands that rose from its ruins.

Introduction

Caldrith’s history is remembered in fragments: broken empires, ruined cities, and old borders that still shape the world today. The continent’s past is not just a tale of kings and conquest, but of collapse, survival, and the long shadow left by powers that once seemed eternal.

This page provides a broad overview of the rise of the Aurelian Imperium, the devastation of the Sundering, and the lands that emerged in the centuries that followed. Use it as a foundation for understanding the world your campaigns move through, while leaving room for lost records, disputed histories, and secrets yet to be uncovered.

Official History

Long long ago, there was a vast thriving empire that stretched across what is now the continent of Caldrith. Its people, masters of both the arcane and mechanical arts, built cities that soared into the sky and dug deep beneath the earth, shaping the world with powers and knowledge far beyond what we understand today.

But all empires fall and Caldrith was no different. The Aurelian Imperium, as the civilization was once called, fell into ruin during a time known only as The Sundering, a cataclysmic event whose cause is still debated by scholars and feared by the few who know the truth. Whether it was a war, the awakening of a forgotten power, or the greed of those who sought immortality, the result was the same: The empire’s grand cities shattered, their magic turned wild, and their great technology became nothing more than buried relics.

Caldrith is a land of diverse people and landscapes, where ancient ruins dot the land like scars from a forgotten war. The once-proud capitals of the Aurelian Imperium now lie in ruin, hidden beneath tangled forests, frozen mountains, and desolate wastelands. Though much of the ancient knowledge has been lost, fragments of it remain.

Caldrith is a continent divided by towering mountain ranges, expansive plains, deep forests, and treacherous deserts. Each region is home to a unique culture, and yet, all are tied together by the shadow of the ancient empire’s downfall. Some seek to rebuild what was lost, others to find power in the remnants of the past, while many simply try to survive.

Today, Caldrith stands on the edge of a precipice. The old ways still stir beneath the surface, and many fear that the powers that destroyed the Aurelian Imperium might be stirring again. The Empire of Caldrith, a collection of diverse factions, fights to maintain order in a fractured world, but beneath it all lies the fear of what might come if the secrets of the past are fully uncovered.
